The 2nd Round Of Xbox One X Pre-Orders Go Live Soon At GameStop ( Tomorrow )

You're not alone, if you didn't manage to get yourself an Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition. This machine was Microsoft's fastest selling console ever and sold out shortly after pre-orders went live, leaving an untold number of customers on the outside looking in. And while you won't be able to get a Project Scorpio Edition -- those are gone -- you'll get another chance to order Microsoft's superpowered console starting tomorrow. According to GameStop, pre-orders go live at noon Central Time on September 20.

While the Xbox One X starts at $499, GameStop is offering up to $200 for rewards members who trade-in a console, something that should appeal to many upgrading customers. And while it's impossible to know just how quickly these things will move, we do have a bit of past performance to look at. Console pre-orders of any kind tend to sell out pretty quickly, so if you want to secure your console for a November 7 launch, it's advisable to place your order as close to noon as possible. Other retailers will likely have stock as well, and a leaked Walmart ad suggests that the big box store will get a new allocation on September 21. If I had to make a prediction I would say that these won't be too difficult to find during the holiday season, but the surprising demand for the Xbox One Elite Controller could also indicate a substantial appetite for high-end Xbox products. And so it never hurts to be sure if you know you want one.

The Xbox One X is a machine built for people with an affinity for powerful electronics, a 4K TV, and a little extra cash to burn. It plays all the same games as the standard Xbox One S, but it does so with higher resolutions and/or framerates. It's more powerful than its chief competition the PS4 Pro, but it remains to be seen how much that extra power will translate to increased sales. It will be very interesting to watch how the console performs during the holidays: if it does well, it could lead to a brand-new cycle of incremental upgrades for consoles to either replace or augment the current standard of generational leaps. Either way, I'm hoping that the Xbox One X can make me notice its graphics a bit better than the PS4 Pro currently does.
